On the 17th of September, the newish looking Finchfield faced Bridgnorth from the division above. Finchfield started the strongest with Ian Bradley scoring after a sweeping interchanging move between Rich Saunders, Chris Jones & Craig McGarry on the left. It was a fast passing move just off the training pitch. This stunned Bridgnorth who started to play better resulting in the equaliser, 5 minutes later, which Finchfield felt should have been avoided. Finchfield continued with fast passing game, but the new set up in midfield meant we were giving the ball away too often which resulted in Bridgnorth scoring again after 14 mins. New boy George Jandu did well & found the pace much quicker than he was used to in West Midlands Prem or West Midlands 1, but overall did very well & definitely will be able to play at this level. 1-2 at half time.
Finchfield changed shape again at half time, with Ian Bradley having to leave for work. Finchfield dominated the start of the 2nd half with great work from James Dyson, Matt Stocken, Andy Stevens & Ollie Harris at the back. Unfortunately Dyson was green carded for a dubious stick challenge & this allowed Bridgnorth back into the game. Bridgnorth scored from a penalty corner on 46 mins. This didn’t deter Finches who created many chances but unfortunately just couldn’t convert. Credit has to be given to Sam Russell, who fired in some great balls across the circle, as well as Dan Birch who puts in such an outstanding performance in midfield week in week out. Praise also needs to go to Alex Crow in goal. He has become better & better whilst under the guidance of Coach Jo Nightingale & Manager Chris Roberts. Stevens received a yellow card which allowed Bridgnorth to score another late on. Disappointed with losing Finches have a lot of positives to work on & feel promotion is on this season as they have the returning Craig Roberts & Martin Boyle back next week for the final friendly against Edgbaston.
